Abstract:[Objective]The analysis of flexure hinges in existing literature is mostly based on the Euler-Bernoulli beam model, which ignores the influence of shear deflection. To calculate compliance more accurately,a novel approach based on the Timoshenko beam model and screw theory was proposed.[Methods]Using the S-type flexible structure as an example,theoreti-cal modeling was conducted and the impact of dimension parameters on the compliance of straight beam was analyzed. The translational compliance of the samples was then measured using finite element analysis and an experimental testing platform.[Results]The results demonstrate good agreement between the analytical values, simulation values, and experimental measure-ment data, with a maximum relative error of 7.16%.Furthermore,this study presents a new perspective for the structural design of other hinge configurations. In summary, this research introduces a more accurate compliance analysis model for flexure hing-es by incorporating the Timoshenko beam model and screw theory. The findings provide valuable insights for the design and op-timization of flexible structures.
