Abstract:Objective:To explore the spiritual well-being needs of the elderly in care institutions from the perspective of inter-generational care, and to provide a basis for formulating inter-generational care activity plans suitable for the elderly in care institutions in China. Methods:By using the interpretive phenomenological method and the purposive sampling method,12 elderly people,5 staff members and 5 college student volunteers in a medical and elderly care integrated care institution were selected for semi-structured in-depth interviews from November 2023 to March 2024.The Van Manen method was used for data analysis. Results:A total of 3 themes(the need for spiritual comfort, the need for self-actualization,and the need for educational and cultural and entertainment participation)and 7 sub-themes were extracted. Conclusion:The spiritual well-being needs of the elderly in care institutions are diverse and have not been fully met.Medical staff should take the mental care needs of the elderly as the orientation, fully integrate various resources, and construct an inter-generational care model for care institutions that suits China's national conditions, with the aim of improving the mental health of the elderly and promoting healthy aging.
