Abstract:Objective:To explore the experiences and needs of cancer patients regarding the maintenance of peripherally inserted central catheters(PICC),in order to provide evidence-based data to optimize PICC maintenance services. Methods:This qualitative study conducted semi-structured interviews with 15 PICC cancer patients from a tertiary grade A cancer hospital in Beijing, employing descriptive phenomenological methods to collect data. The interviews focused on patients'experiences and needs during the PICC maintenance process, and data were analyzed using Colaizzi's seven-step phenomenological method. Results:The patients'experiences were summarized into several themes:life reconstruction;dual burdens;information gap;humanistic care. Conclusions:Cancer patients face multiple needs and complex experiences during PICC maintenance, including guidance on practical procedures, information support, and psychological care.Future nursing practices should address these needs by improving procedural techniques, developing convenient support tools, and optimizing health education strategies to help patients better adapt to PICC maintenance and improve their quality of life.
