Summary of the best evidence for oral health management in patients with consciousness disorders

Abstract:Objective:To retrieve and integrate the best evidence for oral health management of patients with consciousness disorders,so as to provide evidence-based basis for clinical nurses to effectively manage the oral health of patients with consciousness disorders.Methods:Retrieve evidence on oral health management for patients with consciousness disorders from Wanfang Database,CNKI,VIP Database,CBM,Chinese Medical Journal Full-text Database,PubMed,the Cochrane Library,JBI,and Embase.The retrieval period was from the establishment of the database to March 18,2024.Two researchers independently evaluated the quality of the literature and rated the level of evidence recommendation.Results:A total of 9 papers were included,including 5 summaries of evidence,2 expert consensuses and 2 systematic reviews.Sixteen best pieces of evidence were summarized,covering five aspects:nursing staff training,oral assessment,pre-operation preparation,operation process and precautions.Conclusion:The best evidence for oral health management in patients with consciousness disorders is practical and feasible.Medical staff should provide standardized oral health management for patients with consciousness disorders based on evidence-based evidence and in combination with clinical practice.
