Abstract:Objective:To investigate the diagnostic effect of calf circumference and body mass index(BMI)on low muscle mass and identify the optimal cut-off values for women aged 60~70 years old in community,to provide the evidence for targeted screening of sarcopenia by community caregivers. Methods:This study used data from the Physical Activity and Health in Older Women Study(PAHIOWS)for 1 296 community-dwelling women aged 60~70 years old.Low muscle mass was identified based on the diagnostic criteria of the Asian Working Group for Sarcopenia 2019.This study used receiver operator characteristic(ROC)curve to evaluate diagnostic effect of calf circumference and BMI on low muscle mass for women aged 60~70 years old and Youden index was used to identify the cut-off values. Results:The prevalence of low muscle mass was 5.32%.Calf circumference and BMI were correlated with ASM and ASMI positively(P<0.001).The cutoff value of calf circumference was 34.5 cm(area under curve,0.842;sensitivity,75.4%;specificity,80.5%)and that of BMI was 23.0 kg/m2(area under curve,0.922;sensitivity,88.4%;specificity,84.4%).Conclusion:Calf circumference and BMI can be used to screen sarcopenia effectively for community-dwelling women aged 60~70 years old.In the absence of calf circumference measurements,BMI may be considered for early screening for low muscle mass.
