Prevention and management of silent aspiration in patients with dysphagia:a summary of the best evidence

Abstract:Objective:To retrieve,evaluate,and summarize the best evidence for the prevention and management of silent aspiration in patients with dysphagia,and provide reference for clinical practice.Methods:According to the evidence-based"6S"pyramid model,the relevant literature on prevention and management of silent aspiration in patients with dysphagia was systematically retrieved from top to bottom.The search time was from the establishment of the database to June 30,2024.Two researchers independently evaluated the quality of the included literature,extracted data,and summarized evidence that met the standards.Results:A total of 19 articles were included,and finally 27 pieces of evidence were extracted from 8 aspects:team management and silent aspiration identification,screening and evaluation,compensation strategy,nutritional support,oral hygiene,rehabilitation treatment,and health education.Conclusion:This study summarized the relevant evidence for prevention and management of silent aspiration in patients with dysphagia,and provided an evidence-based basis for medical staff to standardize the implementation of silent aspiration and related complications.
