Abstract:Objective:To investigate the promoting and hindering factors of post-traumatic growth of psychiatric nurses after violent incidents,in order to provide basis for the psychological construction of nurses after violent incidents. Methods:A descriptive qualitative research approach was employed.Purposive sampling was employed to select psychiatric nurses who had experienced patient violence from a tertiary Grade A general hospital in Changsha City,Hunan Province, and a tertiary Grade A specialized hospital in Henan Province from March to May 2023.Semi-structured in-depth interviews were conducted, followed by thematic content analysis to systematically identify and refine key themes. Results:Facilitators were categorized into three overarching themes(personal competence factors, coping style factors, organizational context factors)with six subthemes.Barriers emerged as two primary themes(psychological resilience factors,post-event handling factors)comprising five subthemes.Conclusions:Post-traumatic growth among psychiatric nurses is influenced by both barriers and facilitators.Clinical administrators should prioritize addressing nurses'psychological needs following patient violence exposure, establish hospital-wide violence prevention cultures, and integrate pre-service training programs that enhance knowledge preparedness, skill development, and psychological resilience cultivation.
