The home oxygen therapy experience of patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and their caregivers:a qualitative Meta-synthesis

Abstract:Objective:To systematically evaluate the home oxygen therapy experience of patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease(COPD)and their caregivers.Methods:Computer searches were conducted on CNKI,Wanfang Database,VIP database,Chinese Biomedical Literature Database,PubMed,Web of Science,the Cochrane Library,EBSCO,Embase,PsycINFO and other databases to search qualitative studies on the home oxygen therapy experience of COPD patients and caregivers.The search period was from the establishment of the database to May 31,2024,and Meta-integration of the included studies was performed using the pooled integration method.Results:A total of 11 literatures were included,and 36 results were obtained and 8 categories were extracted,which were summarized into 3 integrated results(benefits of home oxygen therapy,difficulties and challenges faced by home oxygen therapy,adjustment and coping of patients and caregivers).Conclusions:Health care providers need to tailor care to the home oxygen therapy experience of COPD patients and their caregivers.It is important to deepen the communication between nurses and patients,build a harmonious family and medical relationship,and ensure that patients face treatment with a positive attitude,deliver practical information to reduce the stress of patients and caregivers and enhance their social adaptability,thereby maximizing the individual value of patients and ultimately achieving optimal treatment outcomes.
