A qualitative study on the career decision making self-efficacy of nursing students of transfering major

Abstract:Objective:To explore and analyze the real experience of nursing students who have transferred to other majors through in-depth understanding of their career decision making self-efficacy,to help them improve their professional identity and promote their high-quality employment.Methods:From April to June 2024,the phenomenological research method was adopted to conduct semi-structured interviews with 12 nursing students who had changed their major,and the interview data were sorted and analyzed with the Colaizzi 7-step analysis method.Results:Three themes and twelve subthemes were extracted,including building positive professional cognition,shaping positive professional attitudes,and planning future career development.Conclusions:Nursing students who transfer their major have an increased sense of career decision making self-efficacy,reasonable guidance to their mental health,professional identity and access to employment information may improve their sense of career decision making self-efficacy.
