Effect of maternal active coping style on fatigue:an analysis of the mediating effect of social support

Abstract:Objective:To explore the relationship among positive coping style,fatigue and social support in parturient women,and to provide suggestions for the management of fatigue.Methods:568 pregnant women from 2 tertiary hospitals in Nantong City,Jiangsu Province were investigated by convenience sampling,active coping scale,fatigue scale and social support scale.Results:Maternal social support score(41.39+6.81),active coping style score(2.35+0.56),fatigue score(4.52+3.36);Social support was positively correlated with active coping style and negatively correlated with fatigue(P<0.001 for all).Social support plays a mediating role between active coping style and fatigue,and the mediating effect accounts for 58.92%of the total effect.Conclusions:Positive coping style can indirectly affect postpartum fatigue through social support.Medical staff should strive to improve the level of social support and encourage women to adopt positive coping style,so as to reduce the occurrence of maternal fatigue.
