Influencing factors of polypharmacy management in patients with chronic heart failure:a qualitative research

Abstract:Objective:To explore the influencing factors of polypharmacy management in patients with chronic heart failure(CHF)based on the capability,opportunity,and motivation-behavior model(COM-B model),and provide a basis for primary health care institutions to formulate clinical intervention measures.Methods:A semi-structured interview was conducted with a total of 18 patients with CHF from November 2023 to January 2024 by using purposive sampling method,and the data were analyzed by directed content analysis.Results:A total of 3 themes and 8 sub-themes were extracted,namely,ability factors(disease and medication knowledge,medication management skills),opportunity factors(treatment burden,medical support,family support)and motivation factors(belief in taking medicine,subjective initiative,negative emotions).Conclusions:The polypharmacy management behavior of CHF patients is affected by many factors.The medical staff should take targeted measures to improve the medication management ability of patients,strengthen the multi-social support,and cultivate the positive medication management motivation,so as to improve the medicine-taking behavior of patients.
