Abstract:Objective:To explore the mediating effect of self-esteem on perceived social support and experiential avoidance in patients with advanced lung cancer undergoing chemotherapy. Methods:A total of 392 patients with advanced lung cancer undergoing chemotherapy in a cancer hospital in Hunan province from June 2023 to August 2023 were selected by convenience sampling. The patients were surveyed using the general information questionnaire,Perceived Social Support Scale,Self-esteem Scale, and Acceptance and Action Questionnaire Ⅱ.Results:The experiential avoidance score of patients with advanced lung cancer undergoing chemotherapy was(26.28±8.53),which was negatively correlated with perceived social support(r=-0.524,P<0.001)and self-esteem(r=-0.505,P<0.001).Self-esteem partially mediated between perceived social support and experiential avoidance(indirect effect coefficient:-0.136,95%CI:-0.126,-0.032),and the mediating effect accounted for 22.44%.Conclusions:Perceived social support can negatively predict experiential avoidance in patients with lung cancer undergoing chemotherapy, and self-esteem plays a partial mediating role.It is suggested that medical workers can reduce the degree of experiential avoidance in patients with advanced lung cancer by enhancing the perceived social support of patients and improving their self-esteem.
