Qualitative study on influencing factors of medical delay in rural elderly stroke patients

Abstract:Objective:To explore the influencing factors of medical delay in elderly stroke patients in rural areas,so as to provide relevant theoretical basis for promoting the health management of rural elderly patients with stroke.Methods:From July 2022 to October 2022,a total of 20 elderly stroke patients were selected as the research objects by purse-sampling.Semi-structured interview was used to conduct the research,and the interview data were analyzed by Colaizzi 7-step analysis method.Results:The influencing factors of medical delay of elderly stroke patients in rural areas could be summarized into four themes and ten sub-themes,including ideological and cultural factors(low education level,backward ideology,backward health concept),disease factors(decreased self-care ability,long period of disease effects),material and economic factors(lack of medical resources,lack of economic security,lack of environmental facilities),family factors(weak family health concept,distorted family burden concept).Conclusions:To do a good job in the health management of elderly stroke patients in rural areas,it is necessary to base on the current situation of rural areas and elderly groups,strengthen ideological and cultural guidance,reshape health concepts,pay attention to family influence,and create convenient conditions for medical treatment,fully stimulate the health management needs and initiative of elderly stroke patients in rural areas,reverse the delayed medical treatment behavior,and strengthen the active medical treatment behavior.To improve the health level of elderly stroke patients in rural areas and promote the development of grassroots health undertakings.
