Abstract:Objective:To investigate the mediating role of economic toxicity in symptom burden and demoralization syndrome in advanced lung cancer patients. Methods:A total of 292 patients with advanced lung cancer admitted to a grade-A hospital in Zhengzhou City from February 2022 to February 2023 were selected by convenience sampling method.General data questionnaire,Comprehensive Scores for Financial Toxicity based on the Patient-Reported Outcome Measures, the M.D.Anderson Symptom Inventory and the Short Demoralization Scale were used to investigate.SPSS 26.0 software and AMOS 28.0 software were used for statistical analysis. Results:The total score of economic toxicity, symptom severity and symptom distress of advanced lung cancer patients were(11.66±4.35),(123.14±14.23)and(37.96±6.31)respectively.The total score of demoralization syndrome was(18.73±5.11).Pearson correlation analysis showed that the total score of economic toxicity was negatively correlated with symptom severity, symptom distress and demoralization syndrome(r=-0.601,-0.537,-0.578,P<0.01).Demoralization syndrome was positively correlated with symptom severity and symptom distress(r=0.502,0.538,P<0.01).Bootstrap method showed that economic toxicity played a partial mediating role between symptom burden and demoralization syndrome, and the indirect effect value of economic toxicity between symptom severity and demoralization syndrome was 33.15%.The indirect effect value of economic toxicity between symptom distress and demoralization syndrome was 35.26%.Conclusions:Economic toxicity plays a partial mediating role between symptom burden and demoralization syndrome in patients with advanced lung cancer.Medical staff should provide comprehensive support for patients to reduce their economic toxicity and thus reduce the level of demoralization.
