Prevalence of cognitive impairment in COPD patients in China:a Meta-analysis

Abstract:Objective:To assess the prevalence of cognitive impairment in patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease(COPD)in China by using Meta-analysis.Methods:Relevant articles were retrieved from China National Knowledge Infrastructure(CNKI),Wanfang database,Vip database,Pubmed,and Web of Science database.Articles were screened according to the inclusion and exclusion criteria.Two researchers conducted strict literature quality evaluation and performed meta-analysis using Stata16.0 software.Subgroup analysis was performed according to different ages,genders,education levels,and smoking history.Results:A total of 15 articles were included,involving 2805 patients with COPD,of which 1 415 patients with cognitive impairment.Meta-analysis results showed that the total prevalence of cognitive impairment in Chinese patients with COPD was 53.0%[95%CI(43.0%,64.0%)].Subgroup analysis results showed that the prevalence of cognitive impairment in patients with COPD under 60 years old was 40.0%[95%CI(21.0%,58.0%)]and who over 60 years old was 59.0%[95%CI(42.0%,76.0%)];52.0%[95%CI(38.0%,66.0%)]for male patients and 55.0%[95%CI(37.0%,74.0%)]for female patients;66.0%[95%CI(43.0%,88.0%)]for patients with primary school education and below,76.0%[95%CI(64.0%,89.0%)]for patients with junior high school education,54.0%[95%CI(30.0%,77.0%)]for patients with senior high school/technical secondary school education,and 35.0%[95%CI(20.0%,50.0%)]for patients with college/junior college education;37.0%[95%CI(18.0%,57.0%)]for patients without smoking history,56.0%[95%CI(33.0%,80.0%)]for those who have quit smoking,and 64.0%[95%CI(40.0%,87.0%)]for those who have not quit smoking.Conclusions:The prevalence of cognitive impairment in COPD patients in China is high,so we should identify risk factors early and actively prevent and intervene.
