Effect of empowerment education on self-management of vascular access in maintenance hemodialysis patients

Abstract:Objective:To explore the effect of empowerment education on self-management of vascular access in maintenance hemodialysis patients.Methods:A total of 100 maintenance hemodialysis patients were selected as the control group from August to November in 2017 in the hemodialysis center of our hospital.A total of 102 maintenance hemodialysis patients from December 2017 to March 2018 were selected as observation group.The patients in control group were treated with routine health education metho, and the patients in observation group were treated with empowerment education based on regular education.The self-efficacy, self management ability and the incidence of complications were compared between the two groups.Results:The Scores of Self-efficacy Scale (GSES) and self-management ability in the observation group were higher than those in the control group (P<0.05), and the incidence of vascular access complications was lower than that in the control group (both P<0.05).Conclusions:The implementation of the empowerment education could promote the improvement of self-efficacy and the self management ability of maintenance hemodialysis patients, and reduce the incidence of complications.
