The impact of rehabilitation care measures on pulmonary function and quality of life in elderly patients with asthma

Abstract:Objective:To investigate the effect of rehabilitation nursing care on lung function and quality of life in elderly patients with asthma.Methods:One hundred and twenty elderly patients with asthma were divided into observation group (n =60)and control group(n =60).The control group received conventional nursing while the observation group received rehabilitation care measures.To evaluate the two groups’pulmonary function and quality of life at both pre intervention and six month after the intervention.Results:The scores of 6 min walking distance (6MWT),vital capacity (VC),forced expiratory volume in 1 second (FEV1 ),forced expiratory volume in 1 second to forced vital capacity ratio (FEV1/FVC),the maximum mid expiratory flow rate (MMEF),activity limitation,asthma symptoms,psychological and emotion,self health relationship,response to stimuli and total scores of observation group were higher than control groups after the intervention (P <0.05). Conclusion:Rehabilitation nursing can improve pulmonary function in elderly patients with asthma,improve the quality of life,and help patients’prognosis.
