Correlation between mental health,social support and job stress in oncology nurses working in three grade A hospital

Abstract:Obj ective:To know about the status of mental health,social support and j ob stress in oncology nurses working in three grade A hos-pitals and correlation among them.Methods:A cross sectional survey was used for investigation of 87 oncology nurses with General Informa-tion Questionnaire,Symptom Checklist (SCL 90 ),a nurse working pressure Scale and Social Support Scale.Results:The total positive de-tection rate of SCL 90 in the group of nurses was 69.0%,with a poor mental health.The oncology nurses’job stress level was medium,and the top five in j ob stressors included low social status of nursing work, too few opportunities to pursue further studies,low wages and other benefits,too little chance of promotion,and too big workload.The score of SCL 90 had a negative correlation with social support and had a pos-itive correlation with j ob stress in oncology nurses.Conclusion:The on-cology nurses’mental health level was low,and the managers need to focus on their j ob stress and social support level,reduce the pressure of work,and to establish their social support system,then to improve their mental health level.
