Abstract:Experimental study on frozen clay under three temperature levels(-5、-10、-15 ℃)by differ‐ent loading ways is in order to explore the influence of loading way on the uniaxial compression strength. The results show that the instantaneous compressive strength obtained by controlling the loading time is larger than that obtained by controlling the loading force.Besides ,the brittle failure oc‐curred mostly and the failure strain obtained is smaller for frozen clay by controlling the loading time under the temperature at -5 ℃ ,w hile the plastic failure occurred mostly and the failure strain ob‐tained is larger for frozen clay by controlling the loading force under the temperature at -5 ℃. Two kinds of loading way on the failure mode and failure strain of frozen clay are basically the same with the decrease of temperature.
