Design and Construction of Ground Freezing Method for Lateral Pump Station in Ultra Deep Metro System

Abstract：An ultra deep lateral pump station in a metro tunnel between Jiashan Road Station and Shanxi South Road Station of No.12 Line in Shanghai Metro was construction with a horizontal ground freezing method and there were 84 horizontal freezing boreholes ,7 temperature measuring boreholes and 2 pressure releasing boreholes applied to the construction. There were 5 refrigerators set in the refrigeration station and the total required refrigeration value was 333 646 kJ/h. After the 57 days operation of the refrigeration station ,the brine temperature was kept at about -30 ℃ and could meet the design requirement basically. After the freezing completed ,the average temperature ,freezing thickness and others of the freezing soil curtain were reached the design requirements and ensured the safety tunneling and lining of the lateral pump station as well as the surface ground and pipeline sub‐sidence and the tunnel subsidence deformation within the allowed scope.
