Abstract:To study the influence of the cascade arrangement of multiple phase change materials(PCM)on the heat storage and heat exchange performance of packed beds, three paraffins with different phase change temperatures are selected to build single-layer and three-layer cascade arranged packed bed experimental platforms. The system performance is analyzed and evaluated by studying indicators such as heat storage and release time, exergy, exergy efficiency, average heat exchange efficiency and enhanced heat exchange rate. The results show that compared with the single-layer packed bed,the heat storage time of the cascade packed bed is reduced by 17.54%,and the exergy efficiency of the heat storage and heat release processes is increased by 4.40%and 2.76%,respectively.When the heat storage flow rate increased from 0.4 m3/h to 0.8 m3/h,the average heat storage rates are increased to 23.12 kW and 25.27 kW,respectively, while the enhanced heat exchange rate decreased from 17.36%to 9.30%.The thickness of the inclined temperature layer increases with the increase of the inlet flow rate. When the inlet flow rate is 0.4 m3/h,the thickness of the inclined temperature layer reaches the minimum value.Under the same flow rate, the thickness of the inclined temperature layer in a three-layer arranged packed bed is less than that in a single-layer packed bed.
