Abstract:Objective: To investigate the effect of calcium hydroxide used in root canal medication for patients with chronic apical periodontitis. Methods: A total of 100 patients with chronic apical periodontitis treated in the Department of Stomatology of our hospital from July 2023 to July 2024 were selected and randomly divided into observation group and control group by drawing lots, with 50 cases in each group. The observation group was treated with calcium hydroxide for root canal medication, while the control group was treated with formalin cresol. The efficacy of root canal medication, root canal pain degree, periodontal health index, and adverse reactions were compared between the two groups. Results: After treatment, the total effective rate of root canal medication in the observation group was higher than that in the control group (P < 0.05); the root canal pain degree in the observation group was lower than that in the control group (P < 0.05); the periodontal health index in the observation group was lower than that in the control group (P < 0.05); there was no significant difference in the incidence of adverse reactions between the two groups (P > 0.05). Conclusion: Using calcium hydroxide for root canal medication in patients with chronic apical periodontitis can improve the therapeutic effect, alleviate root canal pain, optimize the periodontal health index, and has a high safety coefficient.
