Comparison of Pioglitazone and Glimepiride in the Treatment of Type 2 Diabetes and Analysis of Their Effects on Blood Glucose Control
ZHANG Xiaxiang
Abstract:Objective: To compare the effects of pioglitazone and glimepiride in the treatment of type 2 diabetes and their role in controlling blood glucose levels. Methods: A total of 80 patients with type 2 diabetes treated in our hospital from January 2023 to December 2023 were selected as the study subjects and randomly divided into a control group and an observation group, each with 40 cases. The control group received conventional treatment combined with glimepiride, while the observation group received conventional treatment combined with pioglitazone. The blood glucose levels, islet function, and adverse drug reactions of the two groups were compared. Results: Before treatment, there was no significant difference in blood glucose levels or islet function indicators between the two groups (P > 0.05). After treatment, the blood glucose levels of the observation group were lower than those of the control group (P < 0.05). The HOMA-IR and FINS of the observation group were lower than those of the control group, while the HOMA-β was higher than that of the control group (P < 0.05). There was no significant difference in the incidence of adverse reactions between the two groups (P > 0.05). Conclusion: In the pharmacological treatment of patients with type 2 diabetes, both pioglitazone and glimepiride have good drug safety. However, pioglitazone has a more significant advantage in lowering blood glucose and improving islet function, which has clinical value.
