Promoting the integration of TCM and western medicine in elderly health services
TONG Zhanqi
Abstract:With the acceleration of global aging, the demand for elderly health services is increasingly prominent. The integration of traditional Chinese medicine(TCM)and Western medicine,a model that is based on"TCM health preservation, syndrome differentiation and TCM techniques"has enriched the connotation of elderly health services, added dimensions to disease diagnosis, and broadened the treatment methods for geriatric diseases. This integrative approach emphasizes holistic principles as a guide and, through syndrome differentiation and physical constitution adjustment, significantly enhances the physiological functions, chronic disease prevention, and quality of life for the elderly population. However, current practices face challenges such as the imbalance between the inheritance and innovation of TCM and insufficient integration within the primary health services. In the future,it is necessary to strengthen the standardized application of TCM theories and promote the deep integration of TCM and Western medicine in diagnosis, treatment, and long-term health management to help achieve the goal of healthy aging.
