Abstract:Objective To investigate the correlation between the body roundness index(BRI)and atrial fibrillation(AF),and to evaluate the predictive value of the BRI for AF.Methods A retrospective analysis of the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey database from 2013 to 2020 was conducted, with a total of 10 514 participants included in this study.Participants were categorized into five groups based on BRI quintiles, and multivariate logistic regression analysis was employed to explore the relationship between BRI and AF.Receiver Operating Curve(ROC)analysis was used to compare the predictive value of various anthropometric measurements for AF risk, calculating the area under the curve(AUC).Results After fully adjusting covariates, compared to participants in the first quintile of BRI,those in the 2nd quintiles(OR=1.43,95%CI=0.73~2.80,Z=1.04,P=0.299)and 3rd quintiles(OR=1.85,95%CI=0.97~3.52,Z=1.87,P=0.061)showed no significant increase in AF risk, while participants in the 4th quintile had a 1.12-fold increase in AF risk(OR=2.12,95%CI=1.12~3.99,Z=2.32,P=0.02),and those in the highest quintile had a 2.24-fold increase in risk(OR=3.24,95%CI=1.71~6.12,Z=3.62,P<0.001).Restrictive cubic spline analysis indicated a linear relationship between BRI and AF risk. The AUC for BRI in predicting AF risk was 0.630,superior to other anthropometric measurements. Conclusion An increased BRI is significantly correlated with an increased risk of AF,and it outperformed traditional anthropometric measurements in predicting AF.Monitoring and controlling the BRI should be incorporated into routine cardiovascular risk assessment for AF prevention strategies.
