Individualized Management Strategies for Renal Replacement Therapy in Elderly Patients with Comorbidities
Abstract:With the aging of the population, the number of elderly patients with comorbidities who develop acute and chronic renal failure and subsequently require renal replacement therapy (RRT) has significantly increased. Most clinical practice guidelines for RRT are based on evidence from younger patients with fewer comorbidities, which may not fully apply to elderly patients. Elderly patients with comorbid kidney failure often have multiple medications and various comorbidities, with a high prevalence of frailty and sarcopenia. Their physical function and cognitive function gradually decline, and these characteristics often significantly affect clinical decision-making. This study aims to discuss the issues related to the management strategies of RRT in elderly patients with comorbid kidney failure.
