Risk Factors Analysis of Prolonged Sitting Behavior in Patients with Stable Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease
Abstract:Objective To analyze the risk factors for prolonged sitting behavior in patients with stable chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). Methods A convenience sampling method was used to prospectively select 260 cases of patients with stable COPD who were treated at Linquan County People's Hospital from April 2021 to April 2024. The patients were divided into a prolonged sitting group (>6 hours) and a non-prolonged sitting group (≤6 hours) based on total sitting time. Univariate analysis and multivariate logistic regression analysis were used to identify the influencing factors of prolonged sitting behavior in patients with stable COPD. Results The average prolonged sitting time of the 260 patients with stable COPD was (7.14±2.53) hours, with 176 patients in the prolonged sitting group, resulting in a prevalence rate of 67.69%. Univariate analysis showed that age, body mass index, exercise, oxygen use, modified Medical Research Council (mMRC) dyspnea scale classification, awareness of the hazards of prolonged sitting, comorbid anxiety and depression, social support level, and presence of fatigue were factors associated with prolonged sitting behavior (P < 0.05). Multivariate logistic regression analysis showed that advanced age (OR=1.106, 95% CI=1.039–1.177, P=0.002), oxygen use (OR=2.523, 95% CI=1.130–5.630, P=0.024), lack of awareness of the hazards of prolonged sitting (OR=0.319, 95% CI=0.143–0.708, P=0.005), mMRC grade ≥ 2 (OR=3.739, 95% CI=1.641–8.519, P=0.002), comorbid anxiety and depression (OR=2.342, 95% CI=1.037–5.286, P=0.041), presence of fatigue (OR=2.844, 95% CI=1.279–6.326, P=0.010), and high social support level (OR=1.298, 95% CI=1.203–1.400, P < 0.001) were risk factors for prolonged sitting behavior in COPD patients. Conclusion Advanced age, oxygen use, lack of awareness of the hazards of prolonged sitting, mMRC grade ≥ 2, comorbid anxiety and depression, presence of fatigue, and high social support level are risk factors for prolonged sitting behavior in COPD patients. Clinically, effective intervention measures should be actively taken to reduce the occurrence of prolonged sitting behavior in patients with stable COPD.
