Abstract:Objective To investigate the efficacy of nimodipine and valproate in elderly patients with post-stroke epilepsy(PSE)and its effect on EEG and inflammatory factors. Methods 120 elderly PSE patients admitted to our hospital from November 2019 to November 2022 were prospectively selected, which were divided into control group(60 cases)and observation group(60 cases)according to the random number table method. The control group was treated with sodium valproate, and the observation group was treated with nimodipine combined with sodium valproate. The levels of EEG change before and after treatment,NIH Stroke Scale(NIHSS)scale,Summary Mental State Evaluation Scale(MMSE)score, seizure status[number of seizures, duration per time, epileptic status(STESS)scale],inflammatory factor level[(matrix metalloproteinase(MMP-9),tumor necrosis factor-α(TNF-α),neuron-specific enolase(NSE)],and adverse reactions during treatment. Results The post-treatment of observation group was significantly higher than that of the control group(χ2=7.859,P<0.05).The NIHSS score,MHSE score,EEG,number of seizures, duration per session,STESS score, and inflammatory factor level(MMP-9,TNF-α,NSE)were improved in both treatment groups,The difference were statistically significant(t=10.924,3.235,10.284,13.735,14.913,12.623,7.366,11.028,6.347,9.925,P<0.05).There was no significant difference in the incidence of adverse reactions between the two groups(χ2=1.294,P>0.05).Conclusion Nimodipine combined with valproate in elderly PSE patients can improve clinical efficacy,EEG status and clinical symptoms, reduce inflammation, and be highly safe.
