Efficacy of thymosin α-1 combined with montelukast sodium in treating patients with asthma-chronic obstructive pulmonary disease overlap syndrome and its influence on serum inflammatory mediators

Abstract：Objective To explore the efficacy of thymosin alpha-1(Tα-1)combined with montelukast sodium(MK)in the treatment of patients with asthma-chronic obstructive pulmonary disease overlap syndrome(ACOS)and its influence on serum inflammatory mediators.Methods 127 patients with ACOS admitted to Gem Flower Xi'an Changqing Staff Hospital were prospectively included from October 2020 to November 2023.They were randomly divided into MK group(n=63)and Tα-1+MK group(n=64)by the stratified randomization grouping method.The MK group was treated with MK,while the Tα-1+MK group was given Tα-1+MK.The disappearance times of respiratory symptoms(dyspnea,asthma,wheezing rale,cough),pulmonary function[forced vital capacity(FVC),peak expiratory flow(PEF),forced expiratory volume in one second(FEV1)],asthma control test(ACT),COPD assessment test(CAT),immune function indicators[T lymphocyte subsets(CD3+,CD8+),natural killer cell(NK)]and serum inflammatory mediators[tumor necrosis factor-α(TNF-α),interferon-α(IFN-α),α-1 antitrypsin(ATT)]were observed in Tα-1+MK group and MK group,and the incidence rates of adverse reactions during treatment were compared.Results After treatment,the FVC,FEV1,PEF,ACT,NK,CD3+and CD4+in Tα-1+MK group and MK group were significantly risen than those before treatment,The indicators in Tα-1+MK group were significantly higher than those in MK group(t=2.180,2.081,3.393,6.165,6.316,13.034,2.051,P<0.05).The CAT,CD8+,TNF-α,IFN-α and ATT in Tα-1+MK group and MK group were significantly reduced compared with those before treatment,and the indicators in Tα-1+MK group were significantly lower than those in MK group(t=3.324,2.920,2.547,9.242,4.268,P<0.05).The disappearance times of respiratory symptoms were significantly shorter in Tα-1+MK group than those in MK group(t=8.708,16.680,3.329,2.983,P<0.05).During treatment,it was also observed that there were no statistical differences in the adverse events between Tα-1+MK group and MK group(χ2=0.069,P>0.05).Conclusion In the treatment of ACOS,the application of Tα-1 combined with MK can achieve significant efficacy,effectively relieve clinical symptoms and inhibit the inflammatory response,and enhance the immune function,and it is helpful to improve the pulmonary function of patients.This therapy has high safety.
