Abstract:Objective To investigate the effects of rapid bowel preparation(RBP)versus traditional bowel preparation(TBP)on nausea and vomit after laparoscopic radical resection of colorectal cancer patients. Methods Colorectal cancer patients who would receive selective laparoscopic radical resection were randomized to RBP(n=87)or TBP(n=87).In the RBP group, oral laxative(compound polyethylene glycol electrolyte powder)was taken 1 day before surgery. In the TBP group, enemas were administered nightly with glycerin enema 3 days before surgery.Routine Anesthesia was performed. To prevent postoperative nausea and vomiting, dexamethasone 10mg was injected during anesthesia induction and tropisetron 2mg was injected at the end of pneumoperitoneum. The frequency and severity of nausea and vomit, patients'satisfaction score(numerical rating scale,NRS)and time of first anal farts after surgery were observed and recorded. Results 174 patients completed the trial and were analyzed. At 12 hours and 24 hours after surgery,a more serious nausea and vomit were observed in 52.87%(46/87)and 40.23%(35/87)of patients in the TBP group compared with 21.84%(19/87)and 16.09%(14/87)in the RBP group(P<0.05).The patients'satisfaction scores in RBP group was higher than that in TBP group[(9.20±1.10)pionts vs.(8.40±0.55)pionts](t=8.654,P<0.05).The time of first anal farts after surgery was less in RBP group than that in TBP group[(34.94±20.74)h vs.(47.79±26.52)h](t=-3.560,P<0.05).Conclusions Compared with TBP group, the incidence of nausea and vomit is lower and not serious in the RBP group after laparoscopic radical resection of colorectal cancer patients, furthermore the patients'satisfaction scores are higher and the postoperative intestinal function recovered earlier.
