Effect of enteral nutrition containing dietary fiber combined with probiotics on intestinal mucosal barrier in elderly patients with severe sepsis

Abstract：Objective To investigate the effect of enteral nutrition containing dietary fiber combined with probiotics on intestinal mucosal barrier in elderly patients with severe sepsis.Methods 60 elderly patients with severe sepsis admitted by the department of critical medicine of Hebei Youfu Hospital from October 2020 to December 2022 were randomly divided into observation group(n=30)and control group(n=30).Both groups were given basic treatments and enteral nutrition containing dietary fiber,and the observation group was treated with probiotics on this basis.Intestinal mucosal barrier in the two groups was comparatively analyzed.Results After treatment,D-lactic acid,diamine oxidase(DAO),mean blood glucose(GLUave)and maximum blood glucose variability(LAGE)in the observation group were significantly lower than those of the control group(P<0.05).After treatment,the levels of total protein(TP),prealbumin(PA)and albumin(ALB)in the observation group were higher than those in the control group(P<0.05).Conclusion Applying enteral nutrition containing dietary fiber combined with probiotics in elderly patients with severe sepsis can significantly improve the patients' nutritional status,promote the recovery of intestinal mucosal barrier function,and reduce blood glucose fluctuation.
