Analysis of anxiety,depression and subjective well-being in empty nest elderly under different pension model
Abstract:Objective This study explored the anxiety, depression and subjective well-being of Empty Nesters under different pension patterns. Methods The study researched elderly of over 65 years old in Beijing. Using cross-sectional study, more than 300 home care Empty Nester and 296 institutional pension for the elderly were selected. According to the level of self-care ability, subjects were be divided into two groups, and the levels were compared between two groups of anxiety and depression and subjective well-being. T test was used to analyze the data. Results ADL < 30 group: The anxiety, depression and subjective well-being of the elderly who live at home were significantly better than those of the elderly in the institution. The ADL ≥ 30 groups: The level of depression and subjective well-being of the elderly with institutional care was significantly better than that of the elderly at home (P<0.05),and there was no significant difference in anxiety between the two groups (> 0.05). Conclusion Two kinds of endowment models for the elders in different periods have their own advantages and disadvantages. For self-care elders, home care can give them a higher sense of happiness; and for those who cannot take care of themselves, pension institutions can relieve depression, and thus improve the subjective sense of happiness.
