Cross-sectional investigation on the effects of metabolic syndrome related factors in middle-aged population
Abstract:Objective This study investigated the relationship between health belief, health literacy, lifestyle,health self-management related knowledge,and the formation of unhealthy behaviors in middle-aged population with metabolic syndrome. Methods We selected 270 people including middle-aged people undergoing health examination between Jun 2014 and Sep 2014 in the institute of health management of the Chinese PLA General hospital and staff of national grid community were divided into metabolic syndrome group, high risk group, and normal control group based on the diagnostic criteria of metabolic syndrome. Questionnaire was applied for investigation on the relationship between questionnaire scores and index of metabolic syndrome. Statistical analyses were performed by SPSS2.0. Results There were significant differences between metabolic syndrome group, high risk group and normal control group in total score, health faith-dimension and life-styles-dimension. Total score was significantly correlated with triglyceride,BMI and 2h postprandial blood glucose. Conclusion Low health literacy and low health belief are the main reasons for unhealthy behavior in the population with metabolic syndrome.
