Abstract:Objective To investigate the effects of surgical and non-surgical treatment of intertrochanteric fracture of the femur in the elderly. Methods From Feb 2016 to Feb 2017,119 patients with intertrochanteric fractures of the femur were treated in our hospital and were divided into the operation group(n=78)and the non-operative group(n=41)according to the patients' final treatment. Hospitalization time, clinical healing time, hip joint function and postoperative complications were observed in the two groups.Simultaneously, the anxiety scale was assessed by using the self-rating Anxiety Scale(SAS).Results The time of hospitalization in the operative group was 31.02 ± 4.59 d, which was significantly shorter than that of the non-operative group(82.28 ± 13.21) (P < 0.05). There was no significant difference in clinical healing time between the operative group and the non-operative group (P > 0.05). Function, pain, deformity, range of motion and the Harris total score in the operative group were 42.02 ± 3.81,41.28 ± 5.30,4.07 ± 0.57,4.40 ± 0.84 and 91.05 ± 9.04,respectively, which were all significantly higher than those of the non-operation group: 33.02 ± 4.03,35.54 ± 4.88,3.65 ± 0.68,3.65 ± 0.67 and 76.26 ± 8.85(P < 0.05). The postoperative SAS score in the operative group was 40.02 ± 6.21,which was significantly lower than that of the non-operation group(45.22 ± 5.02)(P < 0.05). The complications incidence rate of the operative group was significantly lower than that of the non-operation group(P < 0.05). Conclusion Surgical treatment of intertrochanteric fractures of the femur shows good effect. It can substantially improve the function of the hip joint, relieve anxiety of the patients and reduce the occurrence of complications.
