Abstract:Objective To investigate changes in the serum MMP-9 and MMP-2 levels after capecitabine treatment in patients with advanced gastric cancer. Methods A total of 151 patients with advanced gastric cancer from our hospital were collected and divided into different groups according to the treatment methods. Of the 151 patients,71 patients in the control group were treated by cisplatin combined with docetaxel as a conventional chemotherapy, and 80 patients in the experimental group were treated with capecitabine via oral administration base on the conventional chemotherapy. Briefly,5 ml of venous blood in patients with fasting was collected before treatment and after 1,2 and 3 cycles of treatments. The serum MMP-2 and MMP-9 levels were detected by enzyme-linked immunosorbent adsorption method. Results The effective rate of the experimental group (51.3%) was higher than the control group(43.6%);the disease control rate of the experimental group(80.0%)was higher than the control group(69.0%),but there were no statistical significance between the two groups (P> 0.05);and the serum MMP-2 and MMP-9 levels of the control group were reduced after 3 cycles of treatment. The serum MMP-2 and MMP-9 levels of the experimental group were reduced after 1,2 and 3 cycles of treatments;the serum MMP-2 and MMP-9 levels of the experimental group were lower than the control group after 2 and 3 cycles of treatments;and the deficiencies were significantly different (P<0.05). Conclusion Capecitabine combined with conventional chemotherapy in the treatment of advanced gastric cancer can significantly reduce the serum MMP-2 and MMP-9 levels.
