The effect of combined ambroxol and ventolin treatment on the serum IL-4 and ECP levels in asthmatic patients

Abstract：Objective To investigate the effect of combined ambroxol and ventolin treatment on serum IL-4 and ECP levels in patients with asthma. Methods A total of 120 asthmatic patients who were being treated for an asthma attack were selected from our hospital outpatient department to participate in this study. According to the clinic,the patients were divided into the experimental group and control group,with 60 cases in each group. The patients in the control group were treated with ventolin alone;the experimental group was treated with ambroxol combined with ventolin and maintained for four weeks. The following indicators were assessed before treatment: interleukin 4 (IL-4),interleukin 13 (IL-13),interferon-gamma (Interferon-γ,IFN- γ),and eosinophil cationic protein (ECP),eosinophil cell count (EOS) and immunoglobulin E (IgE)levels;at the end of treatment,the above indicators were analyzed, and the two groups were compared for the total clinical efficiency. The results were analyzed using SPSS 19 statistical software. Results After treatment,the levels of serum IL-4 and IL-13 and ECP,EOS and IgE were compared in the two groups and were found to be decreased after treatment;the levels of IFN-γ before treatment was increased compared with after treatment;compared with the control group,the IL-4 levels of patients in the experimental group were lower;the IL-13 levels were lower;IFN-γ levels were higher(P < 0.05);ECP,EOS and IgE levels were lower(P < 0.05);and clinical total effective rate was higher (P < 0.05). Conclusion Combined treatment with ambroxol and ventolin can reduce the attacks of asthma patients,reduce the serum IL-4 and ECP levels,and provide a better therapeutic effect that is worthy of clinical practice.
