Influence of social support and coping style on quality of life for patient with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis
Abstract:Objective To investigate the influence of social support and coping style on quality of life for patient with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis. Methods 100 ALS patients who were treated and hospitalized in neurology department during Feb. 2015 to Feb. 2016 were investigated on general information,Social Support Rating Scale (SSRS),Medical Coping Modes Questionnaire (MCMQ) and life quality questionnaire,and correlation analysis were conducted on survey results. Results ALS patients whose social support grades were greater than or equal to 50 account for 43%, 30 ~ 49 account for 14%, less than 30 account for 43%. The patients whose social support grades were higher still had higher score of 8 dimensions of life quality scale than the patients whose social support grades were lower (P < 0.05). Most of patients took avoidance and surrender as coping styles. Conclusion Helping patients to comprehend and accept social support,and to take better coping style will reduce the influence of negative emotions on health,reduce complications,and improve the quality of patients' life.
