Abstract:Objective To observe and evaluate the effect of budesonide on the levels of IL-8 and CRP and to assess the quality of life in patients with acute aggravation of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. Methods One-hundred patients with benign acute aggravation of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease in our hospital from February 2013 to December 2014 were randomly selected and divided into an observation group (50 patients were treated with 2 mg of budesonide suspension liquid with 2 mL of 0.9%sodium chloride via hyperbaric oxygen atomizing inhalation therapy for 2 weeks) and a control group (50 patients were treated with an anti-inflammatory, doxofylline, and other conventional treatments for 2 weeks ). The levels of CRP and IL-18 in the blood, the pulmonary function index and the SGRQ score of the observation group were compared with the control group. Results After treatment, the observation group's blood levels of IL-18 were statistically significantly lower than the control group (P < 0.01), and the observation group's blood levels of CRP were also statistically significantly lower than the control group (P < 0.01). After treatment, the indexes of pulmonary function, including the FEV1, the FEV1 prediction value, and the FEV1/FVC, in the observation group and in the control group were significantly higher than before treatment (P < 0.01); the observation group's values increased more significantly, and these differences were statistically significant (P < 0.01). The SGRQ (respiratory symptoms, activity limitation and disease) score of the observation group was significantly lower than the control group, with statistical significance (P < 0.01). Conclusion Budesonide can significantly reduce inflammatory response factor CRP and IL-8 levels in patients with acute exacerbation of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and can improve the pulmonary function and quality of life in these patients.
