Clinical study of cardiac function and quality of life in elderly patients with chronic heart failure treated with probiotics
Abstract:Objective To investigate the efficacy of probiotics in improving the cardiac function and quality of life in elderly patients with chronic heart failure. Methods 50 elderly patients with chronic heart failure were randomly divided into two groups. On the basis of conventional anti heart failure drugs ,the probiotic group was treated with probiotics for 4 months ,and the control group was given a placebo.4 months later, the left ventricular ejection fraction was assessed by echocardiography, and the quality of life scores were assessed. Results Left ventricular ejection fraction and quality of life score increased significantly in patients treated with probiotics compared with baseline. The left ventricular ejection fraction and the quality of life score increased significantly in the probiotic group compared with the placebo group. Conclusion On the basis of conventional anti heart failure drugs ,oral probiotic therapy can significantly improve left ventricular ejection fraction and quality of life in elderly patients with chronic heart failure.
