Analysis of all cause of death in the old population
Abstract：Objective To analyze the causes of death of the patients in the Department of health care in Peking Union Medical College Hospital in recent 4 years. Methods From October 2011 to November 2015,68 patients who were older than 80 years were died in the Department of health care in Peking Union Medical College Hospital. All the causes of death were recorded according to the medical records and analyzed. Results The main causes of death and their percentage were infectious diseases 53%,malignant tumors 19%,cardiac death 18%,respiratory failure 6%,others 4% including mainly cerebral hemorrhage and rupture of aneurysms. In infectious diseases,pulmonary infections were most popular which accounted for 95%. Conclusion the common causes of death in the elderly population are the infectious diseases which result in organ function failure,malignant tumor,cardiac death,respiratory failure and other factors. Among the infectious diseases,pulmonary infection accounted for the vast majority,so the prevention of infection,especially pulmonary infection,is very important for the extension of the old people's life.
