Abstract:Aiming at the problems of low resolution, large volume and narrow frequency band of traditional ground penetrating radar(GPR)which lead to poor detection accuracy and adaptability, the paper designs a symmetrical water-drop-shaped GPR mi-crostrip antenna, presents the structure and design process of the antenna, and simulates the antenna through HFSS.To address the weak directivity of the antenna, the directivity is enhanced by adding a five-sided back plate. Finally, the performance of the anten-na model is simulated in a sandy soil environment and compared with that in a vacuum environment. The results show that the abso-lute bandwidth of the symmetrical water-drop-shaped antenna can reach to 80 MHz,the maximum gain is 3.1 dB,and the front-to-back ratio of the antenna pattern is 5.1.It can be seen that the designed antenna is very suitable as a GPR antenna for un-derground pipeline line detection.
