Abstract:In this study,we investigated the species composition, dominant species, abundance,Pielou eveness index (J),Shannon-Wiener diversity index (H') and biodiversity threshold (Dv) of zooplankton in Nansha area of Pearl River Estuary,South China, based on the data collected from the ecological surveys of coastal water in this area in Spring (April 2015) and Autumn (November 2015).A total of 73 zooplankton species were identified, which included 28 species in spring and 57 species in autumn.Acartiella sinensis and Macrura larvae were the top two most abundant components among the identified groups in those two periods.Zooplankton in the investigated area could be divided into freshwater, estuarine and low-salinity,eurythermal and euryhaline, nearshore warm water and pelagic warm water groups. In both spring and autumn, the abundance of zooplankton was positively and significantly correlated to water temperature (P<0.05) while the salinity was the significantly important factor controlling the zooplankton community structure in autumn (P<0.01).
