An Example of AP98 Leeway Drift Model Application: Drift Experiment of DongFangHong 2

Abstract：Based on the theory of AP98 leeway drift model and its practical algorithm in real winds,we analyzed the situ drift data of DongFangHong 2 ship (DFH2) with least square method,and determined its 9 leeway coefficients.The slope,y-intercept and standard error of downwind leeway were 0.0544,-0.067,and 0.1,respectively,while the coefficients of right crosswind leeway were 0.003,-0.27 and 0.11,respectively,and the coefficients of left crosswind leeway were-0.003,0.27 and 0.11,respectively.Further,the trajectory of DFH2 was hind-casted,which was in good accordance with the observation.Internally,our work discussed the large-ship drift characteristics for the first time,which may serve as a reference for the related future works.
