An Experimental Study on Bridge Pier Scour Protection of Artificial Grass

Abstract：Based on the scour mechanism of river bridge pier,we developed ascour prevention methodwith artificial grass in combination with retainer.By physical modelling,the influence of one-way flow,retainer,and different densities and spacers of artificial grass on the scour of bridge pier was investigated.With the protection of artificial grassin combination with retainer,noscour was found in case of clear-water scour,and the scour was reduced more than 40％ in case of moving bed in comparison with single retainer.Moreover,the empirical formula of scour depth,velocity and distance was fitted based on the data obtained.
