Abstract:The internal waves generated by uniform flow over topography were investigated by using circulating water tank. The related experiments were carry out with the help of dyeing technology, particle tracer technique and high-speed image recording system.Six kinds of different barrier ratio B (the ratio of the barrier height to the lower layer water depth) were set up,to explorethe evolution characteristics when uniformflowover the topography. The qualitative analysis and quantitative measurementssuggested that when 0.6<B<0.8,the waveform is stable and not easy to break;when B<0.6,the obstacle has little effect on the current;when B > 0.8,the waveform is steep and easy to break and mix.And with the increase in B,the amplitude and energy of the internal waves increasegradually, wavelength and the distance S decrease, and thenonlinear effect is gradually strengthened.PIV experiments show that in the generating process of the internal waves when the fluid passes through the obstacles, clockwise vortex on the lee side of the obstacle can be generated.
