Reviews on the Toxicity of Nano-TiO2 and Heavy Metals on Aquatic Organisms

Abstract：Titanium dioxide nanoparticles (nano-TiO2) have been widely used for years;however,they may cause adverse effects on water environments.Due to the strong adsorption of nanometer titanium dioxide,the combined toxicity of nano-TiO2 and heavy metals have become an important issue and raised great research interests.The excessive heavy metals showed adverse effects to aquatic organisms.Heavy metals under different conditions showed different interaction with nano-TiO2.The excessive titanium dioxide can have toxic effect on organisms.To understand the biological and toxic effects of heavy metals and nano-materials,we focused on the single and combined toxicity of nano-TiO2 and heavy metals with other studies of such interaction.
