Abstract:The influences of different salt treatments (0,200 and 400 mmol/L NaCl;0,200 and400mmol/L KCL) on the fresh weight of shoots, dry wet of shoots, degree of succulence,photosyn-thetic pigments and osmotic adjustment substances were studied in order to decipher the physiologicalmechanism underlining the response of Suaeda salsa from different habitats to salt stress. The resultsindicated that 200 mmol/L NaCl treatment made a significant increase of fresh weight of shoots, drywet of shoots and degree of succulence to S.salsa, while 400mmol/L NaCl treatment showed a negativeeffect.NaCl and KCL treatments both decreased the content of S.salsa but increased chlorophyll a/bmarkedly.The treatments decreased the organic acids content but increased probline content markedly. The treatment of 200 mmol/L NaCl and KCL increased significantly the soluble sugar content,while400mmol/L NaCl and KCL showed negative effects. The fresh weight of shoots, dry weight of shoots, degree of succulence, chlorophyll a and chlorophyll b of S.salsa inhabiting intertidal zone were obvi-ously lower than those of plants inhabiting saline inland.Salt stress effects of potassium salt was biggerthan sodium salt. The salt stress effect of S.salsa inhabiting saline inland was significantly greaterthan that of plants inhabiting intertidal zone.
