Abstract:By using observational data from the National Data Buoy Center,a new wave period parameterization scheme is established, which is based on the relationship between the wave age and non-dimensional wave height. The scheme is applied to the SWAN model.Using the model output of the significant wave height and the surface wind speed, new mean wave period is calculated.Through analysis of relative error of the mean wave period between the calculation results and the buoy observational data, and between the model output and the observation data,it is found that the model output is smaller than the observation data, and the result of the new scheme is much more better. It means that the new wave period parameterization scheme could be used better in the numerical simulation of the mean wave period in the east China sea.
