Abstract:Objective To study the brain controlled driverless vehicle system using two different interfaces based on video feedback and augmented reality, and its manipulation methods. Methods Targeting the remote control and concomitant operation missions that astronauts may encounter while interacting with the driverless vehicle in the construction process of extraterrestrial base, two types of steady-state visual evoked potential (SSVEP)-based brain-computer interface (BCI) systems were designed. Their corresponding interactive modes were the plane non-immersive interaction with video feedback and three-dimensional immersive interaction based on augmented reality, respectively. The filter bank canonical correlation analysis (FBCCA) method was used to extract the feature of electroencephalography (EEG). Combined with asynchronous control method, the control to driverless vehicle were achieved. Results Offline experiment results of seven subjects suggested that the highest information transfer rate (ITR) for non-immersive and immersive interaction were 45.4 and 25.04 bits/min, respectively. Online experiment results suggested that the averaged task completion times for the corresponding interaction mode were 4.13 and 4.03 min, respectively. Conclusion The two braincomputer interaction modes proposed in this paper have a good reference value for improving the performance of the human-machine cooperative work in extraterrestrial exploration tasks.
