Developments and Conceptions of Pressure Protection Technology in Spacesuit

Abstract：In human spaceflight missions, the pressurized environment for human survival in spacesuit is built up through pressure protection technology. As the fundamental carrier of pressure protection and ergonomic performance, pressure garment is the key to spacesuit improvements. The history of pressure garments was reviewed, including the periods of early technical certification, moon exploration and space laboratory, shuttle mission and space station. Evolution properties of pressure protection technology in spacesuit were also concluded. Aimed at the environmental features of space exploration and the multi-destination mission planning in the future, requirements on pressure protection technology for latter spacesuits were analyzed. On this basis, the operating pressure, the structural realization, and the capabilities of materials and processing were discussed. And approaches and key technologies of a soft pressure suit with variable pressure schedule as a shortterm goal and partial mechanical counter pressure suit as a long-term objective were proposed, which could serve as a reference for developing advanced spacesuit in the future.
